That's What Friends Are For
Here is another un-mastered track from the upcoming new acoustic CD,
Coffee Shop Songs. This fun, bouncing
melody pulls from some childhood memories to speak of how we need to be there for our
friends and help them through difficult times.

Love Your Enemies
Another preview from the upcoming new acoustic CD,
Coffee Shop Songs. This song
speaks to the difficulty of learning to love even those who don't treat
us well and how we are to respond the way Jesus would. For Nanny Rene.

31:30
Enjoy this preview of another brand new song written just this past Valentine's Day.
This song is a prayer to my future wife, whoever and wherever she might be.
The lyrics draw on the qualities described in Proverbs 31:30
of a God-fearing woman.

Green
This song was a personal revelation that the grass is not greener
on the other side, no matter what others might claim.

Seraph's Wings
This song starts from the perspective of a self-reliant individual
who then discovers that he truly needs the "brush of seraph's wings"
to come with the live coal from the altar and touch the coal to his lips
to cleanse him.

Without You
Sometimes we think that God is one big NO, but what he's trying
to do is protect us from things that will hurt us and leave broken
shadows of the good he intends for us. So, although we can't see him
with our eyes we can reach him with our cries if we will just surrender
and cry out to him for help.

Lately
He's standing and knocking at the door of your heart, and
wondering why lately you haven't returned his call.

Sticks & Stones
"Sticks & stones may break my bones, or so I think the saying goes.
But careless words wound the heart of a friend. We can't undo them." This
song is a nice picking song featuring a moving melody line and slap technique
that emphasizes the danger of our tongue and how our words can wound each
other.

I'm Not That Strong
"Left standing in the rain, hope clutched like an umbrella
with holes in it." Often we find ourselves like this and realizing
that without the strength of the friends God has placed in our lives
we're not that strong.

No Need To Worry
This song recognizes that God is in control and that no amount of
our worrying can change that. He will still provide and take care of our
needs even before we know what they are.

Parable
This is my version of the Parable of the Prodigal Son taken from the passage in
Luke 15:11-32 and put to music. No matter how far we might stray, if we return
and ask for forgiveness and change our ways he will welcome us with open arms.

#174 (live)
This is the 174th song that I have written during the past 14 years. As
I was unable to come up with a better title, calling it "Number 174"
just seemed to stick. The song deals with being content in whatever situation
as sometimes when you get what you've been longing for it doesn't really turn
out to be what you expected. This is a live recording at an outdoor amphitheatre in
Vancouver, Washington where I was backed up by Casey Murphy on bass and Larry London
on drums.

Lazy Laundry Day
This funky, wah-guitar driven song uses images of everyday life
such as a late night card game followed by a lazy, rainy day
for doing laundry to tell the Gospel message. We never have to
wash again, because the Blood of the Lamb has washed us white as
snow!

I Never Knew Him
This song is a favorite of those who enjoy my more Dave Matthewsesque
material and relates the story of how sometimes friends pretend to not
know us to the way Peter treated Christ when he was taken before Caiaphas.
This scene might be familiar to you if you recently saw
The Passion of the Christ.
It ends by admonishing all of us not to be caught saying "I Never Knew Him."

Lay It Down
This song speaks of how God can see our hearts and look right through
our filmy disguises we try to wear; just like the fable of the King
and his new invisible clothes. We need to lay down our burdens
and come to him instead of pretending we have everything together.

Great Is The Lord
Just a simple worship song based on Proverbs 3:5-6 acknowledging
that the Lord is the only one who can make our paths straight. I wrote
this song while visiting friends in Kona, Hawaii.

I Give My Life
Fans of Dave Matthews should really like this simple worship song
based on Matthew 16:24-27. It explains how we must lose our
lives in order to truly gain them in the end.
Features the great sax playing of Shawn Waggoner.

Blameless Heart
This song is pure scripture in song taken from Psalm 101:1-3 and
Psalm 102:1-2 (NIV translation). It speaks of how we need to offer
a pure and blameless heart before the Lord.

Come Unto Me
This song is based on the familiar and well-loved passage in
Matthew 11:28-30 that offers comfort and rest to the weary
if they will just come to Jesus and lay down their burdens.
This was a favorite at OSU Praise and Prayer nights, and features
the guitar work of Dawson, Lorn Dunn, and Jim Sitter.

Born Is The King
This is the title track for my Christmas CD and features the pounding
and whirling sounds of celtic drum and flute. I added the flute line
after singing the vocal and playing the acoustic guitar part. I've
been playing flute since I was 12 and figured I should incorporate it
into some of my songs.

When Jesus Was Born
This is another of the original carols on my Christmas CD and
it asks "Anyone have an answer for me? Why there were just three kings
who came to honor him, when Jesus was born?"

We're Just Three Kings
This was my first experiment in altering a classic Christmas carol
to a more modern arrangement in my style. The added bridge really
sums up what I felt the focus of the original song was—"Can
you help us find the child?"
