Extend a hand in greeting
Pay fleeting interest to the answer given
To "How are you doing?"
We let "Just fine" suffice between us

Afraid to dig much deeper down
We let things slide between us that we shouldn't
For we're to hold accountable
And shoulder one another's burdens
But we daren't break the ice

We leave knees bloodied, pants torn
Hearts thrown wide inviting others' scorn
Cultural suicide to care
When someone's fallen into the middle of the street
With everyone watching
Do you help them to their feet

For much has been forgiven us
Yet we can't seem to let
The smallest slight pass by
Without affecting such a wounded mien
That one would be hard pressed to explain why

We profess to be so different
Still we leave a trail of wounded souls behind us
Why would they care to follow after
This man Jesus
If all they see is us as

He said they'd know us by our love
But do they know us by our love
Will they know us by our love
We must show them by our love
