Well I opened up my mouth today
I just stood and watched my words streak your face
And now, all that I can say is I’m sorry
Though I don't expect to reap any benefit
From my apology for it’s clear to me
That it won't be the first or the last time that you'll hear it
For I've come to find out that I'm set in my ways
But by the grace of God I pray that will change
I'm a stubborn man
God knows what I am
Had to find out the hard way what could have been
If I'd listened and learned
‘Stead of taking a turn round the mountain
Well I’m here to ask, no, I’m here to beg
Is there anything I might do or say
To convince you it’s worth hanging around for a little while longer
I’m not trying to duck, dodge, or make a deal
I know what I’ve done, how it made you feel
I’ve got a long way to go and I know He’s not through with me yet
If I could just learn to lay my pride down
Give up myself and let Him wear the crown
Well you know He promised to make me a new man then
For I've come to find out that I'm set in my ways
But by the grace of God I know that will change
How I wish I had learned
‘Stead of taking a turn round the mountain
